About Peels
I am a monstrously huge fan of peels and of dermabrasion - really any treatment for the skin that is available to me outside the salon. Yeah, I guess I am a beauty junkie. No matter how much I love my Miracle Whip facial, I still can’t resist trying new things.
Well, I received an email from a new reader this evening and she sounds like she has the same skin issues as I have, and she was asking about a couple of different products that I have tried - firstly, from Lancome, the Resurfacing Peel. This comes with preparatory towelettes, the chemical peel cream, a brush to apply it with, cloths to remove the peel with and soothe your skin and Comforting Cream (a neutralizer). You also get a nifty Lancome headband to keep your hair back and out of the peel. To be quite honest, the headband was the best part of the $145 package. I was not impressed with the peel at all, I used the whole package (about 8-10 treatments) and really didn’t see any results that justified the steep price. If I am going to spend that much money, I want to see real results, and I didn’t.
I have also tried Estee Lauder’s Perfectionist Peel, and I liked that so much better, I really felt that I had good results from it, and the cost was nearly half the price of the Lancome. The process is simple - there are two products, the peel itself, and a jar of pads to use to remove the cream and neutralize your skin. There are just about the same amount of treatments in the Estee Lauder package as in the Lancome package. The more I try Estee Lauder, the more I love them - they are doing a great job keeping up with the modern woman’s needs. I really feel that Lancome is charging a fortune for their products just to keep up their high perceived value, I really do.
An important thing to remember is that these products are all made for mass market use - and are milder than an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) treatment you would get in a doctors office or maybe even a salon, where you are being treated by a professional, meaning that they have been trained and have experience and are therefore more able to use a product with a stronger concentration of acids.

That was totally my question! That Lancome peel works really well for my mom, she’s in her fifties. I’m in my thirties and have combination/acne prone skin. I think my mom notices a big difference because she doesn’t exfoliate her skin regularly, the way I do. So when she DOES exfoliate, she can really tell. I only use two of the steps included in the peel(and the headband that I love) which are the glycolic solution and the towelettes for taking the peel off. I got about 12 peels out of my kit, I ran out of the pre-peel towetts and have many of after-peel wipes left. I don’t use the cream provided to use afterwards, it’s just to rich and thick for my skin type. I do love to use the serum that goes with the Lancome Resurface-C Microdermabrasion Kit, I just buy it seperatly because I do not like those types of “scrubs”

I’m a huge fan of Nu Skin Polishing Peel, because it’s just one tube , you apply it like moisturizer on your skin, let it dry, then scrub if off using your hands like dirt on your skin - takes off 1 solid layer. I seriously think that Lancome’s microdermabrasion set is way overpriced, as compared to its other counterparts. Mary Kay Microdermabrasion set has been receiving rave reviews, and it’s just 1/4 of the price! :) Have a great weekend :)
