Acquarella Nail Polish

by Christina Jones on March 25th, 2006

Acquarella Nail Polish

Gail sent me a link to Acquarella, a water based nail polish that she saw Dr. Weil advertising in his newsletter.  About the polish from the Acquarella website:

Acquarella makes nail polish fun and hassle-free. You can change nail color without the dreadful smell of chemicals since it’s the world’s only truly safe nail polish that is both water-based and non-toxic. An easy preparation with fast drying makes it a snap. Acquarella Nail Polish hydrates the nail, helping to prevent nails from chipping, peeling and yellowing commonly associated with harsh conventional nail products.

  • Fast – Usually dries “to touch” in 3 minutes…
and “to use” within 20 minutes.
  • Easy – No base or top coat needed
  • Safe - Water based and Non-Toxic with virtually no odor
  • No Formaldehyde, Phthalates or chemical solvents of any kind

Since Acquarella is water based, it’s non-flammable and free from toxic fumes making it a perfect companion for traveling, the office, or any other place. Acquarella Nail Polish comes in a wide variety of playful shades that fit any occasion.

The nail preparation is quite a process - it takes 4 days to prepare your nails for this polish, but only when first coming from regular nail polish. This is something you would definitely want to devote your nails to using all of the time rather than going back and forth with regular nail polish. The polish is $18 a bottle, and only ships to the U.S. and Canada. BOY would I love to hear from some people who have tried this!

Hi, This is about the acquarella nail polish. I ordered and tried the ‘conditioner’, which is their version of ‘clear’, really. I was a bit concerned when I read about the arduous ‘preparation process’, and read that you can’t use normal moisturizers with it and you have to buy their special moisturizers (which don’t moisturize, BTW), and all just to use the stuff. Nevertheless, I was so completely sick of the smell and horribleness of regular nail polish, and my nails were such a complete WASTED MESS (peeling halfway back the nail, seemingly irreparably damaged) from it, that I went ahead and ordered the whole thing: “conditioner”, special remover, and moisturizer.
Well. I am honestly pleased far beyond where I dared to hope. This four day ‘process’ thing was totally unecessary (I had stopped using polish for about a week and was treating my nails with jojoba oil twice a day before the acquarella came). But best of all, this stuff lasts WAY longer than regular nail polish!!!!!! It is beautiful, completely oderless, and actually lasts beyond the week that I give it before removing and reapplying. I still give my nails a ‘break’on the weekends to allow them to get more yummy jojoba oil (and clear henna), and in one month my nails are COMPLETELY healthy again–I haven’t seen them like this for about 10 years. I’m serious. I will be using this nail polish for life, NO DOUBT. My regular moisturizer DOES NOT interfere with the polish. Everything is the same, except I don’t fool with horrible smelly regular remover every 3 days, and watch my polish chip off all week long, taking my nails with it layer by layer. My nail drama no longer invades my life every day. Now, there is no nail drama. I simply catch sight of my nails every so often and think how beautiful they look, and what a poster child for healthy natural living I am. So there’s my feedback on this product. 120% approval.

Laura - thanks SO much for the great review - I am sooo glad that Acquarella worked for you. I should know to trust Dr. Weil when he recommends something!

I apologize for not finding this sooner in the blogosphere, but I would like to thank Laura and the post. I’m not surprised that jojoba oil helped her, it’s one of the few “oils” that doesn’t interfere like most emollients - it’s even something we’ve experimented with internally as a product. If you have other feedback or suggestions, just let us know. We’re all about helping people see the possibilities our polish opens up for them to have healthy process with their nails.

    Thanks,

Love Acquarella and have used it for about a year and a half! My nails used to flake terribly, but no more. Would like a deeper red added to the color choices.

I too love Acquarella. But, can we get more coverage for the nudes, they seem to be too transparent? A way to market, would be,
“color similar to that famous color known as
Mademoiselle/or the French name for a young lady”, but possibly get away legally with it if you don’t name Essie. Also, please get these in stores SOON! I’m in the most health-conscious part of the U.S., and they are not in ANY stores. Thank you!

I recently just tried the acquarella polish and was really pleased with the results as well. I love that there is no bad odor… and that it is completely removable in the case of spilling, if cleaned while wet! No more polish stains on my carpet or marks on my furniture from removers. You can see my full review on my blog if you are interested. http://juicefairy.com/2008/07/21/acquarella-polish-reveal/
