Beauty Beat - Brush On!
One of the best things you can do to improve your makeup skills are to buy, and use, great brushes to apply your makeup. Are you still using the ratty little sponge applicator that came with your favorite eyeshadow? How about that sprawled out and tangled up blush brush? Yuck. Invest in some good natural hair brushes, either from a cosmetics manufacturer or from the art store, you will not regret it. Quality brushes will allow you to put your makeup exactly where you want it and blend it flawlessly. Be sure and take good care of them by giving them a little bath in some shampoo every week or so, and let them air dry. My favorite brushes are inexpensive and are the Face Secrets brushes, sold at any Sally’s Beauty Supply, and are so well made they are going to last me a lifetime. Brush on!

This beautiful set of brushes pictured here are the Shu Uemura brushes that are way out of my budget, but I keep dreaming. Aren’t they gorgeous (in only the way a set of brushes can be gorgeous, of course). :)

That was one of my best makeup moves, I think. I get my brushes at Target for 2-3 dollars each. They’re really soft, and not so expensive to replace when, as I suspect, little ones take them and lose them. grrr….

I feel your pain - been there done that. :) I will have to check out Target’s brushes, I haven’t looked at them before, thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the tip I will have to look at Sally’s this weekend. That is one of things that really frustrates me is not being able to find quality brushes in the area I live. They are all cheaply made and shed constantly. I use to love the make up brushes they sold at Bath and Body Works when they use to sell makeup I still have one of the brushes and it is so soft and never sheds…better than the Bare Minerals ones I have which are expensive and shed constantly on my clothes. Also Paul Begoun(spelling) makes nice quality brushes also.

I truly love those brushes from Sally’s - they are exceptional quality at an awesome price. They look almost exactly like the ones from Jane Iredale, I wonder if they aren’t made by the same folks. Who knows.
Re: the bareEscentuals brushes - I love mine, they have not shed one bit. I really suggest you call them and arrange to get them replaced, I would surely *hope* they would do that. And if they don’t, let me know. ::evil grin::

Some of the Sonia Kashuk ones at Target are surprisingly nice for the price, too. Specifically some of the larger shadow brushes and the blush brush. Paula’s Choice brushes are pretty good, too, and don’t cost an arm and a leg, either (they are kind of tacky looking, though, since they have her 1-800 number on them, but eh.)
My favorite brushes in the world are Chanel’s large eye brush (I think it’s the number 11?) and the Lola blush brush. So handy, so perfect in every way. Um, but I’m more than a little nuts for the whole Lola line, so take my opinion with the world’s largest grain of salt ;)
