Beauty Beat: Shiny Shiny
Clothes, bags and shoes aren’t the only things that are supposed to be shiny this season. Shiny hair is in fact in style all year round. If you don’t have a model-shiny mane, perhaps it is time to try one of the temporary hair glosses on the market today. Not too long ago this was a service only available at your salon, but now it is sooooo much easier and a whole lot less expensive! John Frieda has a wonderful gloss, and Clairol is unveiling theirs very soon. My best tip so you will get the most out of these products is to use an amount relative to your hair type. Fine hair will need less product than the label specifies, otherwise you might find your fine hair weighed down. Shiny - but weighed down. We are looking for a healthy sheen here, not a greasy grunge look - at least not this season. ;)

I have been eyeing that John Freida product forever, and I wonder if it really makes a difference. I think I will pick it up next time I am at the drugstore.

I really like it, Teri - but you really have to watch out how much you use, especially if your hair is in any way fine. Let me know what you think if you try it!

I’ve used the John Frieda Blonde glaze, and I did like it. I have fine hair (but a ton of it), and while it gave my hair a lot of shine, I have to say that it also did thicken it quite a bit as well, which helped with styling. My only regret is that the glaze is not clear, it is based on hair color, and it made my very expensive high lights a little bit dull, so I stopped using it.
Clariol has their Shine Happy, which is found in the haircolor aisle. It goes on just like a hair coloring treatment, gloves and all! It only takes about 10 minutes, but I have to say that the directions go on and on about avoiding contact with clothes, etc. It kind of freaked me out. Afterwards, I was shinier, but no more so that after a deep conditioning treatment.
Frederic Fekkai has a new shine spray, I just bought a travel size bottle at Sephora for $9 to try it out. I love it! I just spray it on my hair as I head out the door, and it looks like I spent a lot more time drying my hair. Plus, I’ve been using for a month, and the bottle is only about 1/4 gone.

Beware colour glosses if you have oily hair or very fine hair as they can weigh hair down and make it look really greasy at the roots …. but the colour effect is so subtle that you can apply them from mid lengths down, and then all over every so often. They won’t cover grey but do add shine …. choose one that is a close colour match or darker, but sadly they will never take you lighter. I think they give more shine than a deep conditioner … and work really well on dry, processed, straightened and highlighted hair …
