Beauty Salon Pain Can Be Sign Of Stroke
I thankfully have never seen this happen to someone, but it is something you should be aware of. Apparently laying your head back, the way you do when having your hair washed in a salon sink, can be hazardous to your health. In fact, you might have a stroke. The back flex on your neck when you lay back in a shampoo bowl can cause tears in arteries in the neck. If you have pain when you lay back in the sink, do not suffer in silence (I am guilty of this). Ask your shampooist to put a towel down for padding, that will solve the problem.
Have we no reprieve, must we always suffer for great beauty?? Geesh.

I completely agree with you Christina.
No beauty is bigger than a knotted spinal cord or a block in the arteries.
Be it plucking of eyebrows, microdermembrasion or
any other therapy that causes pain during the therapy or later should be taken silently.
Thanks for voicing this vital problem in many parlors, which is cause much due to the lack of skills in beauticians

This is so true. I had a chiropractic ajustment the day before a hair coloring appt. this month and had a head ache all week until I could get to my chiropractor for another ajustment to take the pressure off the blood vessel. Some salons have sinks that you can lay down like a table on.

There have been times when I wanted to hop in the chair on my knees and bend my head forward into the bowl….but I’ve never actually had the guts to do it. Thanks for the “heads up”-literally- I will definitely speak up at my next shampoo.

[…] I didn’t know about this until I read about it over at Ebeauty.com and I have a son who is a hairstylist! Must remember to ask him if he has ever heard of a thing. Apparently using the shampoo bowl can do nasty things to the carotid artery in your neck. Now that is not something to play around with! […]

Pain is an unpleasant sensation of the body which may be relateed with actual or potential tissue damage and which may have physical and emotional components. Pain is a subjective experience that typically accompanies nociception, but can also arise without any stimulus, and thus includes the emotional response. Painis a critical component of the body’s defense system.

I’m a hairdresser of many years. This problem is real - but there is a “new” solution. My clients are no longer complaining about their neck pain or getting wet. This shampoo bowl adjusts up and down 12″ and truly eliminates the issue. It’s amazing. A hairdresser invented it.
