Effectiveness of Sunscreen in bareMinerals

I spent the prime sun hours this Saturday at the Jones’ family Easter celebration outdoors dressed up in my bareMinerals (along with some clothes…LOL), and although I cooked the rest of my body to a nice shade of rare, the bare Minerals protected my face perfectly!
I guess I should have covered my arms and chest in it too! ;) I hope you all had a grand Easter, and filled up on antioxidant rich chocolate bunnies!

That’s a great testimonial, Christine! Hope you’re having fun with Mom. ;)

Ouch! I used to be so lazy about using any SPF. I recently read Leslie Baumann’s Skin Type Solution and found a ton of information regarding my specific skin type…never again will I forget to use sun screen! Plus, in reading about the BSTS ( Baumann Skin Type Solution ), I discovered that there are more than 4 skin types…there are 16! I’m glad to hear your face wasn’t harmed, Christine…and get some aloe for the rest of you!

I’m having a large time with Mom, thanks Gail. :)
Jennifer - I did battle with skin cancer last year at this time, so I never leave home without it, but last Saturday was a good test for the bareMinerals, and they passed with flying colors. I am going to get Leslie Baumann’s book I think - I have now heard several good references for it, thanks for sharing that!

This is very interesting–I just left a post on your thread about Acquarella nail polish, and now I find this one on bare minerals makeup, which I bought some of myself the same day I oredered the acquarella!(go read it on your acquarella thread!) In this case I’m really interested in your method of application. Did you try the pressed version, or just the loose? What kind of brush did you get for it? Also, from whom did you order it? I ordered it through a place who wouldn’t accept my request to return some of the items I got which I found were not what I expected. Also, this is the brand without mica, correct? I can’t have mica because my skin is THAT sensitive. I’m really interested in finding the right mode of application for this stuff before I go ahead and splurge on it though. The loose powder went on a little unevenly. I wonder if the pressed is better, or what have you. Any comments?

Hi Laura - I use the loose powder - and you need more than one application to get it even. The more you put on, the better it looks. Just for everyday, I use one or two layers, but if I am really looking for good coverage, I will wear 3 or 4.
BareMinerals DOES contain Mica - here is the list of active ingredients:
· Titanium Dioxide
· Bismuth Oxychloride
· Mica
· Zinc Oxide
· Ultramarines
· Iron Oxides
Thanks for the comment, Laura - I hope that helped somewhat. :)

Christina,
I hope you ended up getting the “Skin Type Solution.” I just read it and I’m really impressed with Dr. Baumann’s method of identifying skin types. It’s helped me select the proper products for my skin and I’m now using sunscreen every day.
