With a ballet flat or other similarly dainty shoe, go with stockings. Skin tone always looks good, and there’s a ton of patterned hosiery (like herringbone and mesh) out this season.
Edgier looks would be stockings in a different shade than your shoes, or slim anklet socks — very ’80s. These are both pretty tough to pull off, though; I’d proceed with caution there. Colored stockings are easiest to wear with a tall boot to break up that long line of bright.
