Friday beauty gift explosion!

by Aly Walansky on November 21st, 2008

makeup-group.JPGIn a depleted economy such as ours, embracing quality drugstore products can go a long way toward stretching that dollar.

In fact, many products that cost a few dollars at a clip are as good as the high-end brands, and are ideal if you want to experiment with new shades and looks. Some great such lines to get acquainted with are Tropez Beauty and Black Radiance.

Three readers will win a fabulous gift basket of these two brands that includes: Tropez Creme To Powder Foundation, Tropez Flirty Eyelashes, Tropez Irresistable Illuminator, Black Radiance Perfect Tone Lip Color, Black Radiance Fine Line Liquid Eyeliner, and Eyeshadow Quartet (Learn more details about these items at either of the links ab0ve.) This is a great one-stop collection for looking your most beautiful at all your holiday parties!
EDIT: To enter, please share your best-ever discount beauty find. Three winners will be chosen at random from entries. Deadline to enter is November 26. Good luck!

Awesome awesome awesome, so excited. I think the best beauty deal I ever got was when I had a coupon for some Revlon lipsticks and I found them ON CLEARANCE in Walgreens, so I got them for about .48 cents a piece!!!! I picked up four!

My best ever discount beauty find would have to be the cover clean make-up I got at like one of those dollar stores like 10 years ago. It works great as a concealer and I still use the same line today, it’s my favorite :)

My best beauty bargain is Wet ‘n’ Wild Creme Lipliner Pencil, Brandywine 666. It is a perfect match for my lipcolor.

When a local store changed hands, the new owners found Burt’s Bees stock still in shipping boxes. They had no use for it in their bead store, so they just made them into multi-product boxes and slapped $10 price tag on them. I told them they were nuts — after I bought a couple of boxes.

I use Black Radiance brand eyeshadow in black as an eyeliner. I can’t even read the exact shade because it’s so old! I’ve had the shadow for years. It was so cheap when I bought it. I think it was a dollar. The color is a nice deep black and stays on really good.

Something they dont make anymore but ultra foundation/moisterizer when it was being discontinued! I paid 10 dollars for a 60 dollar bottle.

Oh my gosh - I’d die if I won this.

Anyway, I go to TJ Maxx all the time for discount cosmetics. I’ve scored two different Stila palettes there for $5.99. Plus their rouge pots and pots of lip gloss there are only $2.99. It’s so crazy.

They also have great deals on Lancome usually. Juicy Tubes for like $7.99 and eye shadow quads for about the same price!

I’ve bought some _really_ cheap market mascaras and honestly can’t figure out how they are different from the 5x more expensive Dior mascaras. So I personally only buy cheap mascaras from now on!

I was looking for a moisturizer that would work as well as Hope In A Jar without the cost. I’d just about given up, when a jar literally fell into my basket at Sally Beauty (Okay, so I accidentally knocked it in while picking up the item next to it.) Lo and behold! It’s proven to be the best moisturizer I’ve ever tried, and it’s about 1/3 the cost of HiaJ!

  • Audrey
    Nov 21, 2008 at 3:14 pm

The best beauty deal I’ve ever gotten were these super cool nail polishes. They were new to the drugstore at an introductory price plus a regular sale on top of that, I think it was around 75 cents each.

  • Alicia Webster
    Nov 21, 2008 at 3:17 pm

It was at a grocery store, which, as everyone knows, is usually the LAST place to buy inexpensive cosmetics. But this particular day, they had decided to stop selling an entire line of cosmetics (to free up room for something else?), and so I got tons of Cover Girl stuff for 75% off of the regular price.

several years ago target had the dove bonus wraps marked down to 3.88 originally like 12 dollars- there were 3 dollar off coupons on the package so for 88 cents well plus tax I got everyone that had in stock- there were almost 400 prefacial loaded wipes in each pack and a free dove body wash 10 oz sample- so boom- I have one box left- and I believe it was 4 years ago- but the clothes do not go bad- love it- keep a baggie with me to use when I go out- wash myself up or the kids- just get it wet and have dove soapy washclothes..
I do not buy old makeup going on clearance- I had a friend end up with severe problems years ago from the bacteria that had grown in the foundation- even though the foundation was never opened- they do go bad

  • S. Carter

I use clinique, which tends to be a bit pricy, so I wait until they have a “giveaway”, which usually includes travel size samples of all the products I love like lotion, mascara, lip gloss, eye cream, and eye shadow. It then makes it much more affordable, when you consider all the stuff you get with one purchase!

  • Mindy Fathel
    Nov 21, 2008 at 4:39 pm

    For Beauty Discounts:
I wait until my brand goes on sale (BOGO) at the local cvs/riteaid and then buy one product and get one free or at half price. It saves money. I also check circulars for coupons

  • Carol
    Nov 21, 2008 at 4:46 pm

I wait till there is a big sale and go early on the first day of the sale. Try to find a coupon to take for an even bigger bargain. Two for one specials really help these days.

At walgreens I once found Revlon Mascara on sale for only 1.50. Then I realized that they also had a coupon for a rebate of $5. So, in the end, I was actually paid to buy some awesome mascara! It was awesome!

My favorite budget beauty tip is using milk of magnesia (yes, the LAXATIVE!) as a mattifier for my extremely oily skin! Sounds crazy, I know, but it works far better than all the expensive mattifiers that I wasted money on before I found it!

I just love Olay Foaming Face Wash! It is only about $4.99 (or less if you find it on sale) and it deep cleans your skin and removes all of your makeup quickly and easily. I have sensitive skin and it doesn’t dry out my skin or irritate it in any way, and it works for all skin types. I have tried so many different cleansers before and have spent over $20.00 for just one cleanser and I can easily say that $20.00 cleanser did not work half as well as the Olay does. So that is my best-ever discount beauty find and I highly recommend it to all of you. I believe first in quality of the product, and then the price. But if I can purchase a quality product that works the exact same way as a more expensive product of the same type, you can be darn sure I am going to opt for the lesser priced product! Thank you so much for the opportunity to enter this wonderful Tropez and Black Radiance Giveaway! Happy Thanksgiving!

My best beauty find EVER is surprisingly, baby powder. I use it as setting powder, for keeping the shine off of my nose, for deodorizing, and for dusting on my hair when I don’t have enough time to shower.

At a church bazarr, I found boxes filled with Mary Kay products, most things were priced at
$1.00 or under but I didn’t really need anything so I passed on them, untill the last hour when anything you could fit into a shopping bag was a dollar, after I filled the bag with the few things I
had picked up, I ended up with all the Mary Kay
stuff, cause no one else had taken it, it fit down
the sides of the bag, it was all good, and years
later I am still using them.

Two things that are little beauty tricks I use. One is using dryer sheets to manage fly away hair or take the static out of your hair brush. Two is that if you are in crunch and do not have powder for an oily face you can use toilet seat covers found in public restrooms to act as blotters to soak up the oil.

When I was on college break, I worked at a discount store that had just received a huge shipment of goods from a store that had a fire. The only thing wrong with everything is that it had the scent of smoke on it…and maybe some soot. There were so many name brand beauty items for sale, I don’t think I saved any money for the next semester.
