Mascara Smudge Much? Here’s How to Stop It!

Guest post by Liberty Kontranowski of Snarkstress, Teen Style Lounge, and Healthbolt

Close-up of Woman's Eye Brow

Summertime might as well be renamed “Smudging Time” as far as I’m concerned. It’s a common sight of summer - the heat and humidity can wipe out an entire face full of makeup lickety-split. But if there is one makeup essential I refuse to leave my domain without, it’s mascara. Seriously, my lashes (which are loooong, but sparse) disappear without it. So it is of utmost importance to keep that ’scara on my fringe, agreed?

Now while most of us know to start at the base of the lash and gently work our way from root to tip, what happens when you get to the tip and end up smudging onto your lid? The lid that happens to hold your painstakingly applied concealer and shadow, both base and accent colors. The lid that took you ages to perfect and seconds to destroy? Yeah, that one.

Well, here’s a tip I learned from Woman’s World magazine that I will now use ’til the end of time. Give it a try - it’s as close to miraculous as falsies (lashes, that is. Not boobs.)

Before wanding up, grab a simple Post-It note and apply it to your lid. Swipe on your mascara, allowing any erroneous inkings to end up on the paper and not your flesh, let the mascara dry, and voila! Just don’t forget to remove the paper, or you’ll have bigger problems than ink on your eyelid.

Great tip, eh?

For more tips and ideas on the sites and smells of summer, be sure to tune in to our Beauty & Style Theme Day tomorrow and also stop by our July Blog of the Month - The Scented Life - for a visit.

Happy Summer, Beauties!

What Makes You Smile? Winning an iPod?

Good morning and good news! The fine folks from Invisalign have offered up 2 iPod Shuffles to readers of eBeautyDaily!  Woohoo!

invisalign-contest

First, if you don’t know what Invisalign is, it is the ultra nifty and good looking braces alternative.  Here is what their Facebook page says:

Invisalign is the best way to straighten your teeth without having to live with the "metal mouth" look of traditional metal braces. That’s because Invisalign is a series of clear, removable, plastic aligners that are custom-made for your teeth. This means most people around you probably won’t even notice you’re wearing it, which makes Invisalign a great product for adults and older teens. (Invisalign is not good for younger people whose “adult teeth” haven’t fully erupted yet.) Even better, it’s comfortable—without wires and brackets that could irritate your mouth.

I want these so bad for my snaggletooth on the bottom front – I have friends who have used Invisalign and really it is an amazing alternative to ugly braces. :)  But for today, we are giving away iPods (maybe someday, braces!)!

What do you have to do?  Easy peasy.  Leave a comment below and just tell me – What makes you smile?  The contest will run from today, for 2 weeks, til 11:59 pm on Sunday, July 6th.  I will be out of town for that second week, until Tuesday the 8th, but as soon as I get back I will do the drawing from all of the entries.  Be sure and leave a valid email address in the comment form (not in the text of your comment), so I can reach you when the time comes!  Also, if your comment goes into moderation during the time I am gone, be assured that I will get them all out of there when I come home and before I draw.  I will be on a cruise with no internet access, so things definitely will be a little slow around here. :)

I might as well start you out – What makes me smile?  My husband, always.  He is hilarious. :)  And while its on my mind, HUGE condolences to George Carlin’s family, he always made me smile as well.   What a loss.  :(

Book Review: Bringing Home The Birkin by Michael Tonello

bringing-home-the-birkin I just finished Bringing Home The Birkin, recommended to me by my good buddy Hsien.  I really enjoyed this book – it is written by Michael Tonello, who apparently had quite the career finding and selling the elusive Hermes Birkin bag on eBay.

Michael is a great writer, his style is friendly, yet elegant in a way.  His story is quite amazing – it begins with a move to Spain following a job that never panned out, and then through selling his designer clothing collection on eBay, he discovered the power of obsessed fashionista collectors and then wiggled and jiggled until he found out how to give them what they wanted.  I question a little how much of the story is exaggerated, but regardless, it is a good story.  Very entertaining to this chick who would about kill for a Birkin, and would be a great read for anyone familiar with selling on eBay.

The book was a teensy bit slow at the beginning, but I got right into it and couldn’t put it down after about the 3rd chapter or so.

Another great thing?  It comes in a Kindle edition. :)  Man, I love my Kindle (and the price recently dropped forty bucks to $359).  So thanks Hsien for both recommendations!  And congrats on your gorgeous baby girl (even though you didn’t name her Christina!)!  xoxox

MAC Friends & Family – One extra day!

Today is the day.  Through the end of the day today, you can use the offer code MACFF8 on MACcosmetics.com ONLY, and receive 15% off of all of your purchases.  w00t!

MAC-volcanic-ash-exfoliator I would love to recommend the *coolest scrub evah* – the Volcanic Ash Exfoliator, but it is sold out (*sob*).  Watch for this to reappear online, or get thee to the store and pick it up.  It is a big 4.5 oz  tub of the neatest, blackest, most effective scrub you have ever seen (Tia, you will love this if you haven’t tried it – it is a SCRUB, baby!!).  Fun!  And at only $19, its a don’t miss from MAC.

MAC-solar-field-bronzing-powder I still say to pick up MAC’s Mineralize powder foundation – it is great.  Dazzleglass – this is a don’t miss lip gloss.  I am also super duper in love with Solar Riche, a bronzing powder from the Solar Field collection.  This is one of the few bronzers that is cool enough to use on my skin.  No orangey bronzer here, no ma’am!  They also have another color, Refined Golden, if you are a warm skin. ;)   This is gorgeous, $20, in a cool neon orange compact, and is Limited Edition, so hurry on over to MAC!!

Bioelements – Power of Oxygen Kit

bioelements-power-of-oxygen-kit I haven’t talked about Bioelements in a good little while now – but I am still the biggest fan of Sleepwear that ever was.  That is the best nighttime moisturizer *evah.*  They have a fabulous new kit called The Power of Oxygen Kit, consisting of two products that work together to fight aging.  This is what Bioelements says about the products:

Your skin is a living, breathing organ. But it can suffocate from normal aging, the sun, pollution, and other environmental aggressors, making you look older than you should. Give your skin a deep breath of fresh air with Oxygen Cocktail and Oxygenation. Two high-performance specialists designed to enhance the skin’s protective barrier and "push" oxygen into the surface layers.

Included in the kit:
Oxygen Cocktail, 1 oz. - An oxygen-boosting serum of moisture-binding hyaluronic acid blended with a Tissue Respiratory Factor Complex.
Oxygenation, 1 oz. - A stabilized hydrogen peroxide crème derived from atmospheric oxygen.
FREE Instant Emollient Stick for lips

I have been using this product for a couple of weeks now and it really is nice.  While it could be considered a bit of a PITA to apply two products instead of one good ol cream, I always use several serums and potions, so this is very natural for me.  I love the tube that the serum is in, so many companies are putting their products in those pump bottles now, and I hate those, I think they are wasteful.  In this tube, you can get every last drop of product out, so yay for Bioelements!

To find a salon/spa in your area that carries Bioelements, search here, or you can buy online at Dermstore.  The Power Of Oxygen Kit retails for $89.
